Recovering

Recovering can refer both to recovering from an experience, but also to re-covering something that has been exposed, whether with earth or paint; in this sense, the process of scraping back and repainting the picture plane becomes a metaphor for how we shift through recollection, removal and redefinition.

This series explores the relationship of excision and progression, that process whereby we cut things out to move on and develop. Creating the image is not just one of depiction; like cutting into the earthit offers a direct, physical equivalent to cutting into history and memory through personal exploration and reinvention.
